WHO WE ARE

A Coalition of Faith Communities & Local Activists

We believe that if our country will not be a sanctuary, and our state will not, then we have to make our neighborhoods safe for all of us, one by one.  Action Potluck/Sanctuary Neighborhoods in Washington Heights, New York City, is a coalition of grassroots activists in collaboration with our local Houses of Worship working to keep our diverse communities safe and whole. The situation is constantly changing, but our goal is clear: to provide direct support to harmed families by building up communities up around them.

“If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time.

But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine,
then let us work together.”

QUIENES SOMOS

“Si has venido a ayudarme estás perdiendo el tiempo.

entonces trabajemos juntos.”

HELPING FAMILIES BROKEN BY U.S. IMMIGRATION POLICIES

U.S. immigration policies break families. There are families at the border who are still waiting for their loved ones. There are parents lost to their children. "Reunited families" are often still missing a parent and siblings. Zero tolerance has left children traumatized and families without access to the legal, medical or mental health resources they need. For many families that have been reunited, their nightmare is not over.  This is deliberate and systemic cruelty. And although many might not associate it with American values, it is the outgrowth of years of U.S. immigration policy whereby families, arriving in desperation, have been routinely forced to make impossible, heartbreaking choices.

......

No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark.
